10 Cruelty-Free Lip Masks that put LANEIGE to Shame!

At this point, it’s safe to say that we’ve probably all heard of the infamous LANEIGE lip masks thanks to its cult celebrity following and social media presence. Yup, apparently Kendall Jenner, Sydney Sweeney, and Zoe Saldaña all swear by it, but should you go out of your way to buy it? Nope. There are so many better, more effective options that are also cruelty-free! That’s right, LANEIGE is not a cruelty-free brand, which means that they test on animals and/or sell where animal testing is required by law. THIS IS NOT OK! Below, I’ve included 10 lip masks that are not only better than LANEIGE, in my humble opinion, but also do not test on animals in any way, shape, or form!

1. Care:nel Lip Sleeping Mask

This is a straight up dupe for the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask except the Care:nel Lip Mask contains more product, is cruelty-free, and comes at about a 35% reduction in price. It’s an automatic 35% discount every time! I received a sample of the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry given to me as a Sephora birthday gift and compared both products side-by-side. I could not tell the difference and this one is a fraction of the cost!

2. Milani Avocado Butter or Rose Butter Lip Masks

Milani’s Avocado Butter Lip Mask (on sale right now for $8.99!) contains super moisturizing ingredients such as shea butter, cupuacu butter, and avocado oil to lock in moisture all night plus hyaluronic acid to help plump. One thing to note: the Avocado Butter Lip Mask has a bit of an earthy scent. It’s not strong by any means, but it might be more of an acquired scent for some. Overall, Milani’s Avocado Butter Lip Mask is one of my absolute favorite lip butters because it’s cruelty-free, effective, and affordable!

Milani’s Rose Butter Lip Mask is identical in formulation to the Avocado Butter Lip Mask except with the addition of rose oil (and a light rose scent) as opposed to avocado oil. Just like LANEIGE, Milani’s lip butters also contain hyaluronic acid to hydrate and give you that plump look. Plus, all of Milani’s products are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free and these two lip butters are also vegan! Score!

3. Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment

Burt’s Bees overnight lip treatment contains glycerin, jojoba seed oil, and safflower seed oil to keep lips moisturized throughout the night. It also features star skincare ingredient ceramide NP, which is naturally found in the upper layer of our skin and helps improve the look and feel of dehydrated skin thanks to its water retention properties. It comes in two flavors as well: natural peppermint (flavor in the form of peppermint oil) and passionfruit and chamomile.

4. Pacifica Lavender Moon Bedtime Lip Treatment

Pacifica is one of my absolute favorite drugstore brands for both makeup and skincare and this product did not disappoint! With the addition of sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, shea butter and hyaluronic acid it kept my lips hydrated all night and I woke up with soft and supple lips! Plus, all of Pacifica’s products are cruelty-free and vegan, so you can feel good about your purchase.

5. Bite Beauty Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy (On sale right now for 50% off!)

It’s no wonder that this lip mask won best overnight lip treatment on Women’s Health in 2019; it contains so many great ingredients! Among the most notable are sunflower, safflower and jojoba seed oils, which help seal in moisture while the star ingredient, agave nectar, plumps and reduces the appearance of fine lines!

6. Tarte Lip Therapy Lip Mask

Tarte’s Lip Therapy Lip Mask contains a nourishing blend of olive, argan, rosehip, & raspberry seed oils as well as vitamin E to moisturize and protect your lips while you snooze (or at any other time of the day too)! It comes in various shades if your prefer to wear it as a daytime treatment, but the one I’d recommend for nighttime usage is the Strawberry Milk shade as it’s relatively colorless, so you won’t have to worry about a kiss mark on your pillow in the morning (you know, in case you dream of kissing Henry Cavill—anyone else or just me?).

7. Milk Makeup Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask

Milk Makeup’s Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask does indeed contain melatonin! When applied topically melatonin helps protect against UV rays (this won’t be an issue unless you’re taking some Z’s in the sun and even then, please wear SPF!), helps with atopic dermatitis, and significantly reduces roughness and wrinkles! Talk about an ingredient that does it all! This lip mask also contains a berry blend of goji, açai, blueberry, and blackberry extracts that work overnight to help provide antioxidant benefits for rejuvenated-looking lips.

8. O’Keeffes Lip Repair Night Treatment

If you have super dry lips, this is your sign to get O’Keeffes Lip Repair Night Treatment. This balm is thick, but boy does it work well. I live in Minnesota and my lips end up dry and chapped during the winter months, but this stuff heals them right up even when they get to the flaky stage (gross, I know). If you want something simple and inexpensive that works fast, O’Keeffes won’t disappoint.

9. Paula’s Choice Lip and Body Treatment Balm

Paula’s Choice is a cult favorite brand for good reason! The products are not only reasonably priced, but also science-backed and effective! This product in particular contains C10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters as the first ingredient, which is a great source of fatty acids that mimics our skin’s natural epidermal lipids. Furthermore, the Paula’s Choice Lip and Body Treatment Balm contains moisturizing oils such as wheat germ oil, triticum vulgare germ oil, and jojoba esters to keep lips soft and supple.

10. Facetheory Lipabalm Bioactive Lip Balm LP1

If you’re looking for a fully vegan option look no further than Facetheory’s Lipabalm! With ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and raspberry seed oil that are rich in essential fatty acids and help keep lock-in moisture, your lips will thank you. Plus, at just $9.99, it’s a steal of a deal! Keep in mind that this balm has no added flavor or fragrance, so for those that expect a bag of skittles (or even just a light waft of berries), this might not be for you.

P.S. Thank you to everyone who’s visited my blog while I’ve been away from the blogging scene just getting my life together. Adulting with depression and anxiety has been tough lately, but I appreciate each and every one of you who visits, comments, and/or purchases a product from one of my links. It means the world.

Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Kudos!

Thank you so much for reading, Kaitlyn! Yeah, a lot of my friends were a bit bummed when they found out, but were glad that they still had options! While it’s always difficult to let go of your tried and true products, going cruelty-free is so worth it especially when there are so many great options! Glad I could help out! 💕
